They stand silently in line, awaiting their individual assignments, patiently standing, silent and solemn. They wait, second by second, minute by minute, day by day: a loyal group who efficiently and effectively carry out every assignment given to them by their commander. Their task is hard and only given to those who have the ability to complete the difficult assignment.
Out they go, to places near and far, sometimes alone, sometimes a few together, and sometimes in great number, each to do his individual work. Sometimes they come expected, coming as a welcomed guest, but most of the time they come unexpectedly, with only a moment's notice.
They make the journey to their assignment in the twinkling of an eye and it only takes that quick moment to complete the job they have been assigned to do. Delivering their assignment to the proper destination, they return to the back of the line, standing silently and somberly, patiently waiting until it is their turn to carry out their new assignment.
Who are they, these that only go at their Commander's orders? They are the death angels, those angels whose assignment it is to come to those that the Father has deemed that their time on this earth is over.
How efficiently they do their job, going at the Heavenly Father's command to escort those whom they have visited to their eternal destiny. Silently and somberly they do their work, quickly they take the departed souls to eternal bliss or eternal damnation. Created by the Heavenly Father for such a task, they are unmoved by the cries of those whom they deliver to torment, but rejoice with those whose home is heaven.
They gather the young and the old, the sick and the healthy. They visit hospitals and private homes, exciting destinations and local neighborhoods. They come in the early morning, as the sun begins to warm the earth, and they come at night, when the cold winds howl. They visit the rich and the poor. They are no respecter of persons. They are totally obedient to the commands given to them. They visit those that are ready, those whose journey takes them to see the Savior who loved them and gave His life to secure them an eternal home in heaven. They visit those that said 'No' to the offer of salvation through Jesus, and they visit those that had plans to prepare, but now will never have the chance. Time is up. Life has ended, and eternity has begun. They do not listen to the cries for more time. They are unmoved by the pleading of those who want one more chance. They are committed to total obedience of the Heavenly Father's command to deliver each soul to his eternal destiny.
So, if they draw your name today, if in the next few moments an angel is commanded to visit you, will you be ready? If he makes the journey from heaven to earth in the twinkling of an eye; if he comes calling and delivers you to your eternal destination, where will he deliver your soul? Heaven, or hell?
If an angel visits your father, mother, brother or sister, neighbor or friend, co-worker or aquaintance, where will their souls be delivered?
